Fishing in Northumberland Print E-mail
Northumberland also offers quality fishing experiences. It’s not hard to see why Northumberland is such a popular place for fishing. Crystal clear fresh water lakes, magnificent countryside and beautiful coast, combine to provide a pleasant backdrop, and a wonderful Northumberland fishing experience. Only a 10 minute drive will take you to possibly one of the greatest fishing rivers in the country, the River Tweed.

Fishing in Northumberland The River Tweed stretches a total of 98 miles, gaining life from an astounding 1500 square miles of the Scottish border’s catchment area. These staggering statistics make it the second longest river in Scotland and it can take great pride in the fact that more fish are caught to the fly here than in any other river in Great Britain.

The River Tweed has a reputation as being one of the greatest salmon fisheries in the world. Anglers have been visiting the Tweed since the 17th century and its famous run of salmon make it a popular location for sport fishing.

Guests looking for fishing in Northumberland are also encouraged to travel that extra bit further, for fishing on the banks of the river Tyne, which is still considered by many to be England’s premier salmon river. It is also excellent for perch, roach, dance, pike grayling and eel, and the Tyne’s relaxed atmosphere will almost certainly appeal to those Coarse fishing enthusiasts.

A little closer to the Lindisfarne Inn is the river Coquet, famous too for excellent salmon fishing and has been known to produce sea trout up to 21lbs throughout its autumn runs. Those keen on catching brown trout, will want to head for the River Wansbeck. It’s just a stone’s throw from the Historic market town of Morpeth, which is also renowned for its outstanding scenic walking.

First-class fishing in Northumberland can be found in the still water lakes of Kielder Water & Forest Park, and in the North Pennines at Derwent Water.

The Lakeland settings at these locations provide excellent fly fishing opportunities. For those a little less active, a charter fishing trip from the harbours of Amble or Seahouses may well be your catch of the day!

One of the best locations from which to base a Fishing tour of Northumberland is our newly refurbished Inn. We offer comfortable accommodation and excellent food just off the A1 in North East tip of the county.
